Herald Coaster, June 23, 1988: Funeral services for Sophie Caroline Vacek, 75, of East Bernard, will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Holy Cross Catholic Church in East Bernard. Burial will be at Holy Cross Catholic Church Cemetery in East Bernard. A rosary will be recited 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Davis-Dawson Chapel in East Bernard. Mrs. Vacek was born Dec. 12, 1912 in East Bernard. She died Wednesday in Houston. Survivors include her husband, Charlie Vacek of East Bernard; two sons, Jerome C. Vacek of Corsicana and Richard A. Vacek of Rosenberg; a daughter, Sophie Marie Prokop of Bellaire; three sisters, Mary Matej of East Bernard, Annie Laitkep of Wharton, and Louise Macha of East Bernard; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Father Kukral's Altar Boy Scholarship Fund. Services are under the direction of Davis-Dawson Funeral Home in East Bernard.
