The Wolbach Messenger, May 21, 1970, page 1, transcribed by Linda Berney: Edna Jane (Kinney) Johnston was born October 16, 1886 to Alton L. and Sarah E. (DeBord) Kinney in Nance County, Nebraska near Wolbach and departed from this life on May 17, 1970 in St. Paul, at the age of 83 years, 7 months and one day. When she was a small child her parents moved to Wolbach where she spent the remainder of her life. Mrs. Johnston attended the Wolbach Elementary School and was a graduate of the St. Paul High School. She also received further college education. Mrs. Johnston taught school in and near Wolbach until her marriage to William S. Johnston on December 29, 1909. Five daughters were born to this union. They also reared two grandchildren, William Nelson and Mrs. Jane Hortz, both of Omaha. Mr. and Mrs. Johnston resided on a farm south of Wolbach until 1937 when they moved to Wolbach. In December of 1959 Mr. and Mrs. Johnston celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary at the Methodist Church in Wolbach. In infancy, Mrs. Johnston was baptized in the Methodist faith and was a life-long member of the Wolbach Methodist Church. She was a charter member of Wolbach Rebekah Lodge No. 235, being honored for 60 years membership several years ago. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Lola Thomas of Lindon, Colorado and Mrs. Elaine Jacobsen of Wolbach, three sisters, Mrs. Anna Bucy of Kellerton, Iowa, Mrs. Mabel Olson of Greeley, Mrs. Inez Trosper of St. Paul, one brother, George Kinney of St. Paul, ten grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, besides a host of other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, who died in 1964, three daughters, Mary Elizabeth, who died in infancy, Mrs. Ada Shearer, who died in 1963, Mrs. Elizabeth Ash, who passed away in 1967, her parents, two sisters, four brothers, three granddaughters and one grandson.
