Bio
James Milton Galyen was born March 18, 1826 in Surry County, North Carolina, the son of Shadrick Gallion/Galyean and Mahalia Rector. James married to Martha Matilda Lowe in Jan. 1850. Martha was a younger sister of his father's second wife Rutha Lowe. Some researchers have listed Bennett Gallion as a twin to James, but this is incorrect. Bennett was born Feb.6, 1827. In that time period dates before the first of March were entered as the previous year. James and Martha are the parents of 13 children. My great grandfather James Mitchell Galyen was a younger son.
