Grand Island Independent Monday 23 August 1948, p. 7 Mrs. Fries Dies Of Heart Ailment Funeral to Be Held At Wood River Tuesday Morning Mrs. Theresa Curry Fries, 72, a resident of this vicinity all her life, died Saturday at her home, 222 West Seventh. Death was attributed to a heart ailment. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday morning at 10 o'clock in St. Mary's Catholic church at Wood River. The Rev. T. D. Sullivan, pastor of the church, will officiate the mass. Mrs. Fries was born Nov. 23, 1875 in Jackson township. She attended the school of nursing at Mercy hospital in Council Bluffs, Ia., and was graduated in 1907. She was one of the first nurses at the St. Frances hospital here and served there until 1924. She and Henry Fries of Ravenna were married Sept. 29, 1925. They resided on a farm in Jackson township until 1943 when they moved to Grand Island. Surviving, in addition to her husband, are two sisters, Mrs. Delia Mattoon, Hollywood, Cal., and Mrs. Nellie Knight, Wood River. The Apfel funeral home in Wood River is in charge of arrangements.
