On October 15, 1882 as N.J. Young, she married W.M. Gauntt at Henderson County, Texas. The Athens Review July 30, 1942 Mrs. Nannie Gauntt, a pioneer resident of Athens, suffered a stroke at 3:00 o'clock Friday morning and passed away at 8:00 o'clock at her home on East College street. She had been an invalid for some time. Funeral services were held at the Carroll-Lehr Funeral Home Saturday afternoon at 5 o'clock with Rev. Clinton Bradshaw and Rev. S.H. Maples conducting the services. Burial was in the city cemetery. Pall bearers were Winston Nowlin, George F. Beavers, George F. Beavers Jr., Douglas Gauntt, M.F. Wood and Ralph Rumsey. Mrs. Gauntt was the wife of the late W.M. Gauntt, well known Athens merchant. She was born in Rome, Georgia October 15, 1865 and moved to Texas at the age of thirteen years. The family settled in the old New York community. The deceased was married to Mr. Gauntt in 1882, the couple later moving to Athens where they resided for many years. Mrs. Gauntt was a charter member of the First Christian Church. Surviving are two brothers, Joe Young of LaRue and Harve Young of Atlanta, Georgia and one sister, Mrs. Charlsie Otts of Dallas. She was the mother of thirteen children, Tom Gauntt, Carl Gauntt and B.C. Gauntt [1904-1943] of Houston; Jack Gauntt of St. Louis, Missouri; Mrs.Kate Nowlin of Athens; Mrs. George F. Beavers of Fort Worth; Dewey Gauntt and Mrs. Ralph Rumsey of Dallas; Jones G. Gauntt of El Paso; Ralph Gauntt of San Francisco, California; Mrs. S.L. Ball of Allenreed, Texas; the late Tobe Gauntt and one child who passed away in infancy. She is survived also by nineteen grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
