Frances (Granny P.) Pokluda, age 84 of West, died Tuesday, February 25, 1997, at her residence. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Thursday at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West by Rev. Melvin Dornak. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday at the St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West with the Rev. Ed Karasek as celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery near West. Mrs. Pokluda was born March 1, 1912, in Elk, the daughter of Julius and Betha Pustejovsky. She married Willie Joe Pokluda on October 29, 1929 in Waco. He preceded her in death on February 24, 1945. She was a homemaker and farmed with her husband. She also "enjoyed cooking, baking and loved Czech music." She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America and St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West. She is survived by two sons, Daniel Pokluda and Bill Pokluda of West; four daughters, Willie Mae Holecek and Doris Jane Hutyra of West, Georgia Vrba of Elm Mott and Lois Ann Turley of Catoosa, Oklahoma; three brothers, John J. Pustejovsky of Aquilla, Bob Pustejovsky of West and Ben Pustejovsky of Waco; 23 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Active pallbearers are David Holecek, Kenneth Vrba, Roy James Hutyra, Damon Pokluda, Steve McMillian, Ralph Pustejovsky, Ronnie Pustejovsky and Michael Wayne Hutyra. Honorary pallbearers are Glenn Vrba, Anthony Vrba, Richard Vrba, T.J. Holecek, Nathan Holecek, Devin Pokluda and Bill Hutyra. Aderhold Funeral Home in West is in charge of arrangements.
