Local Casualties in Germany: Harry Kallus, Killed... Pvt. Harry T. Kallus, the 22-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles R. Kallus of Mt. Calm, Route 2, this week was reported missing in action on Tues. and killed in action on the following day. According to the war department message, he lost his life with the 3rd Army on March 13 in Germany. Inducted into the Army Air Corps on January 25, 1943, he served as a member of the Military Police at the Topeka Army Air Base, Topeka, Kansas, for two years. Transferred into the infantry in late December 1944, he underwent four weeks of training at Camp Howze, Gainesville, Texas, and was shipped overseas in early February 1945. During the short time he was overseas, he was in England, Scotland, France, Luxembourg, and Germany. Born in this community on March 7, 1923, Pvt. Kallus attended the Brigman School for a number of years and then farmed with his parents until called into the army. He is survived by his parents; his two brothers, Gilbert and Patrick; and one sister, Eleonora Hutyra. The West News, West, Texas, Volume 55, No. 45, Edition 1, Friday, March 30, 1945, pg.1.
