Annie Zahirniak, age 95 of West, passed away April 18, 1998, at West Rest Haven. A rosary was recited on April 20 at 7:30 p.m. at Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial was at 10 a.m. April 21 at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption with Rev. Ed Karasek and Rev. Isidore Rozycki as celebrants. Burial followed at St. Mary's Cemetery. Mrs. Zahirniak was born September 10, 1902, in the Tours community, where she attended schools and grew up. She was the daughter of Frank and Mary Cepak. She married Willie W. Zahirniak on September 13, 1921, in West. He preceded her in death on August 11, 1959. Of this union, seven children were born. She was a mother and housewife first, her children were her top priority. During the war years, she worked at the West Textile Mill and later was a cook at St. Mary's School. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Willie Mae Sulak, who died May 4, 1994. She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Mary and Lawrence Hessel of Waco and Helen and James Warner of Fort Worth; four sons and daughters-in-law, Ernest and Mona Zahirniak, Joe and Dorothy Zahirniak, Robert and Mary K. Zahirniak and Willie R. and Beulah Zahirniak, all of West; 34 grandchildren; 71 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers were Johnny Ray Sulak, Richard Warner, Edward Zahirniak, Stephen Zahirniak, Ernest Zahirniak, Jr. and Patrick Joe Zahirniak. Aderhold Funeral Home in West was in charge of arrangements.
