Mrs. Wesley Joe (Agnes) Smajstrla, age 93, of Waco passed away April 25, 1995, in a Waco nursing home. Rosary was recited on April 28 in St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on April 28 in St. Marty's Catholic Church of the Assumption with Rev. Ed Karasek as Celebrant. Burial followed in St. Mary's Cemetery in West. Mrs. Smajstrla was born January 7, 1902, in Flatonia and had lived in Waco since 1937. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. She married Wesley Joe Smajstrla in 1925. He preceded her in death on April 1, 1975. She was also preceded in death by her parents, John and Katherine Baca; one grandson, William H. Newman; a step-daughter, Annette Soukup; nine sisters and four brothers. Survivors include one son, Johnny Smajstrla, and daughter-in-law, Bobby, of Ft. Mojave, Arizona; one daughter, Evelyn Newman, and son-in-law, Jack, of Benton, Louisiana; one step-daughter, Estelle Jones of Seagoville; a son-in-law, Henry Soukup of Lorena; one brother, Herman Baca of Flatonia; one sister, Elenora Marshall of Oklahoma; nine grandchildren, Yvonne Wiederainders of Flower Mound; Diana Bayer of Waco; Elaine Steakley of Snyder; David Newman of Austin; Jane Newman of The Woodlands; James Newman of Arlington; Terry Lee Smajstrla of Vacaville, California, and five-great-grandchildren. Active pallbearers were James Newman, David Newman, Lloyd Wiederainders, John Bayer, Gene Steakley, Shawn Kilpatrick, John Smajstrla, and Terry Smajstrla.
