Emil Sembera Jr., age 60 of Ross, passed away September 29, 1998 at his residence, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Thursday (today) by Rev. Ed Karasek, followed by a visitation at Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel in West. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, October 2 at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West, with Rev. Melvin Dornak as celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery near West. Mr. Sembera was born December 13, 1937 in West, the son of Emil and Adele Sembera, Sr. He was a life long resident of West and Waco. He attended schools in West. He married Florence (Flo) Woodruff on August 4, 1961 in West. He served his country in the United States Army at Fort Polk, Louisiana and then served in the Army National Guard. Emil was a dedicated employee of Dudley Haas distributing Company in Waco for the last 30 years in sales. Prior to that he was a truck driver for Sligh Lumber Company and Butter Krust Bakery Company in Waco. He was known to be the "Christmas Man" on Maple Avenue for years, because he loved to decorate his yard so much for Christmas and he loved family get-togethers. He was a member of R.V.O.S. Lodge #46 in West, S.P.J.S.T. Lodge #6 in Cottonwood and a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West. He is preceded in death by his father, Emil Sembera Sr., a sister, Irene Sembera, and a brother and sister-in-law, Lawrence and Doris Sembera. He is survived by his loving wife, Florence (Flo) Sembera of Ross; one son, Emil (Scooter) Sembera, III and his wife, Hayley of Waco; two daughers, Dorothy (Kookie) Sembera of Waco and Barbara Ann Larson and her husband John Jr. of Troy; his mother, Adel Sembera of West; one brother Alvin Sembera and wife, Dorothy of Leroy: two sisters, Jaroline Kolar and her husband Rudolph of West and Mary Ann Sexton and her husband, Harold of Hillsboro; two special sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Jimmie and Mike McGaugh of Valley Mills and Rose Lopez of Seguin; father-in-law, Dock Woodruff of Ross; five grandchildren, Corey, Marcus and Tiffany Sembera, all of Waco and John Larson III and Heather Larson, both of Troy; three very special friends, Robert and Emily Cepak and Pat Kinder, all of Waco; and a host of nieces and nephews. He will also be remembered by a host of friends, co-workers and a very special nurse, Linda Halamik and caregiver, Harry Carbajal. Pallbearers were James Lawhorn, Randy Kolar, Dale Sembera, Brian Sembera, Jason Sembera, Kyle Sembera, Willie Steele, David Kolar and Ricky Kolar. Honorary pallbearers are Dudley Hass and his employees; Albin Kolar, Rudolph Kolar, Harold Sexton, Harold Meadows, Buddy McGee, Robert Cepak, Ernest Ordonez, George Mahan, Pete Johnston and Nolan Rounsavall. The family will be at 5104 Ross Rd. in Ross. The family wishes to thank many friends and neighbors for the special care and concern. Aderhold Funeral Home in West is in charge of arrangements.
