Bio

Janice Florence (Flo) Sembera, age 53 of Waco, went to be with the Lord, Monday, February 21, 2000 in Austin, after a long and courageous battle with heart disease. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Thursday at Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel in West. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Friday at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West, with the Rev. Ed Karasek as celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery near West. Flo was born on February 22, 1946 in Waco, the daughter of Dock and Dorothy Woodruff. She married Emil H. Sembera, Jr. on August 4, 1961 in West and had been married for 35 years until his death on September 29, 1998. She was a hard worker and had worked for many years as a cafeteria manager for the Waco Independent School District. She also worked as a phlebotomist for Hillcrest Baptist Medical and Lab Corp. in Waco until she retired in 1996. Flo was the first heart mate recipient in the Aust area to receive her new donated heart on October 2, 1999. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. Her laughter and personality will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West. She is also preceded in death by her father, Dock Woodruff, who died November 14, 1999 and a sister, Rose Lopez, who died in October of 1999. She is survived by her son, Emil (Scooter) Sembera III and his wife, Hayley of Waco; two daughters, Dorothy (Kookie) Sembera of Waco and Barbara Ann Larson and her husband, John, Jr. of Troy; mother-in-law, Adel Sembera of West; one sister, Jimmie McGaugh and her husband, Mike of Valley Mills, very special friends, Robert and Emily Cepak of Waco and Kristen Rounsavall of Valley Mills; one aunt, Lucille Ferguson of Bellmead; three grandchildren, Corey, Marcus and Tiffany Sembera; two great-grandchildren, Cowboy John Larson IIII and Heather Larson of Troy and several nieces and nephews. Active pallbearers are James Lawhorn, Randy Kolar, Dale Sembera, Brian Sembera, Willie Steele, David Kolar, Jason Sembera, Ricky Kolar and Kyle Sembera. Honorary pallbearers are Buddy McGee, Robert Cepak, Harold Sexton, Alvin Sembera and Rudolph Kolar. The family would like to give special thanks to all staff at Seton Medical Center and the Heart Transplant Department in Austin. Special thanks also to Dr. Mary Beth Cesheck, Sherry Younger, Rose, the C.C.U. Staff and the I.C.U. Staff for their efforts of hard work, love and care to Flo which allowed her to remain with us for a while longer. We would like to extend our deepest thanks to the family who so generously gave Flo her "new" heart on October 2, 1999, "If you love someone - become an organ donor."
