Bio

Mary Ann (Sulak) Shebesta, age 82 of West, wife of Robert, mother of Joey, Ann and Katherine, daughter of Rudolph and Albina Sulak, passed away Thursday morning, June 15, 2000 at West Rest Haven. A rosary was recited at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 10:15 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption, with the Rev. Ed Karasek as celebrant. Burial followed at St. Mary's Cemetery near West. The family received visitors from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home. Mrs. Shebesta was born August 13, 1917 in West. She attended St. Mary's School in West and graduated West High School Class of '35. As a child she was reared, as were her children, at her parent's business, Sulak's Cafe. She met Ennis native, Robert Joseph Shebesta, and they married July 25, 1949 in West. After living in Ennis a short while, they returned to West in 1952 and took over operation of the cafe. She was a member of Catholic Daughter's of America Court #829, a former member of West Community Hospital Ladies Auxiliary, K.J.Z.T. and S.P.J.S.T. Lodge No. 54 of West. She was also a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West. She is preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Albin Sulak; her lifelong friend, Irene Podsednik English and her grandson-in-law, Eric Bates. She leaves to fondly remember her sayings, witticisms and ways: her husband, Robert J. Shebesta of West; her children, Joey Shebesta and Ann Busby and her husband, Bobby, all of Austin and Katherine Vrba and her husband, Gary of West, Lilyan Dvoracek of West; seven grandchildren, Joshua, Maya and Gabe Shebeta of Austin, Tracy Busby of Austin, Jaime Bates and Jessica and Ryan Vrba, all of West; three great-grandchildren, Zayne Busby Marroquin of Austin, Collin Busby Marek and Jacob Bates, both of West; several nieces and nephews; as well as many other relatives and friends. Pallbearers are Michael Sulak, Tim Sulak, Mark Hoelscher, Jaime Bates, Jessica Vrba, Ryan Vrba, Gabe Shebesta, Josh Shebesta and Maya Shebesta. Mama loved the cafe and shared a special bond with many of her customers, as well as her employees. She will be missed. Aderhold Funeral Home in West was in charge of arrangements.
