Douglas Gene Schutza, age 66 of West, passed away Sunday evening, June 23, 2002 at his residence. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in Kotch Funeral Home in West, with Rev. Ed Karasek officiating. Military Graveside Rites followed in St. Mary's Cemetery in West, conducted by VFW Post #4819 of West. Mr. Schutza was born March 13, 1936 in McLennan County and was raised in the Ross area. He attended Ross Elementary school and graduated from West High School in 1954, and attended Baylor University. He was a veteran of the Korean War serving in the US Navy. Mr. Schutza was a member of VFW Post #4819 of West, serving as one of the Flag Bearer Honor Guards and was also a member of the American Legion Post 478. Mr. Schutza was employed at William Cameron Company from 1958 until 1991 working in several of their branches in Waco, Rockport, Corpus Christi and Dallas. He married Margie Hubik in 1958 in Waco and had been a resident of West since 1995. He was preceded in death by his father, Alfred Schutza and a brother, Lawrence Schutza. Survivors include his wife, Margie Schutza of West; a son, Douglas Gene Schutza, Jr. of Redondo Beach, California; a daughter, Bridget Joy Wix and husband, Joe of Missouri City, Texas; his mother, Flora Schutza of Waco; a brother, Al Schutza of Cove Creek, Arizona; sisters, Doris Martin of Richland Hills, Carol Snider and husband Bill of Waco, and Shirley Hooper and husband George of Austin; two grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Active Pallbearers were Michael Hubik, Dennis Bohannan, Scott Randles, Darren Bohannan, Steve Randles and Randall Rejcek. Honorary Pallbearers were members of VFW Post #4819 of West. The family received visitors at Kotch Funeral Home from 6 until 8 p.m. Tuesday. Kotch Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
