Mrs. Sophie Opella, 85, of West, died Saturday, May 1 at West Community Hospital. Mass of Christian burial was celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, May 3 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, the Rev. Bob Hajovsky officiated. Burial followed in St. Mary's Cemetery. Rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Sunday at Kotch Funeral Home Chapel. Mrs. Opella was born in Ellinger and had lived in the West area most of her life. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Catholic Daughters of America Court 829, the Altar Society and the KJZT Society 11. Survivors include two sons, Ilan Opella of Fort Worth and Raymond Opella of El Paso; a daughter, Mrs. John (Josephine) Urbis of Robstown; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Pallbearers were James Opella, Jerry Opella, Mark Urbis, Gregory Hutyra, Larry Lichnovsky and Mark Hutyra.
