Ben A. Matus, 52, of West, died Tuesday afternoon, August 5, 1980 in a Temple hospital. Rosary was recited at 8 p.m. Wednesday at Kotch Funeral Home Chapel. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday in St. Mary's Catholic Church, the Rev. George Doskocil as celebrant. Military graveside services will be at St. Mary's Cemetery. Mr. Matus was a lifetime resident of West. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, KJT Society No. 31, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 4819, American Legion Post No. 478 and Disabled American Veterans No. 215 in Whitney. He was a veteran of World War II and was employed by Nemecek Bros. in West. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Ida Matus; one son, Benny Matus of Sealy; one brother, Willie A. Matus of West; two sisters, Mrs. Leo (Helen) Girard of Waco and Mrs. George (Lucille) Kveton of Lorenzo; and four grandchildren. Pallbearers will be: Johnny Girard, Thomas Hutyra, Douglas Hutyra, Ray James Hutyra, Johnny Wachel and Manuel Whitner, Jr. Honorary pallbearers will be godchildren.
