E.W. Kolar Dies After Short Illness This community was saddened Wednesday morning to learn of the death of E.W. Kolar, pioneer resident of this city. Mr. Kolar suffered a paralytic stroke while at work at the West Furniture Company Tuesday afternoon and was taken to his home where he died at 5 a.m. Wednesday morning. Funeral services were held from the residence at 9 a.m. and at the Catholic church at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, January 26, Rev. E.J. Polcak officiating. Interment was at the Catholic Cemetery. Pall bearers were Joe J. Urbis, R. J. Marak, Vaclav Bezdek, J. R. Polasek, Edmund Marek and F. F. Lednicky. Mr. Kolar, age 61, was born in Czechoslovakia. He came to the United States 55 years ago, settling in south Texas, later moving to this city where he had resided for the past 40 years. For a short while after coming to West he was associated with his father and brother in the grocery business here, but purchased an interest in the West Furniture Company in 1905 and was connected with that firm at the time of his death. During the 34 years spent with this firm, Mr. Kolar contacted people throughout this section, and leaves many friends to mourn his untimely passing. Survivors are his wife; one daughter, Mary Ann Kolar; four sisters, Mrs. Frances Zeman of Czechoslovakia, Mrs. J.V. Hajek and Misses Carrie and Anna Kolar of West; 2 brothers, Frank and John Kolar of West. The West News, West, Texas, Volume 49, No. 35, Edition 1, Friday, January 27, 1939, page 1.
