Jo Ann Karlik Funeral Services Held Thursday Funeral services were held here Thursday for Jo Ann Karlik of West who was drowned May 26 in an attempted air-sea helicopter rescue in San Francisco, Calif., Bay. Rosary was recited Wednesday at 8 p.m. in Aderhold Funeral Chapel in West and funeral services were held Thursday at 9 a.m. at St. Mary's Church of the Assumption, Rev. George Doskocil officiated. Burial was in St. Mary's Cemetery. Miss Karlik was attempting to reach a ladder from a helicopter after the sailboat in which she was riding capsized. She missed the ladder and disappeared under the water. Her body was found Thursday night, June 7, at Redwood, California, some twenty-five miles from the scene of the accident. It arrived in West at 10:12 a.m. Tuesday. Miss Karlik was a 1950 graduate of Aquilla High School. She attended Draughons Business College. Previous to her departure for California in 1954, she was employed in Dallas. At the time of her death, she was employed as a secretary with Engineering Management, Inc., of San Francisco. While in Dallas, she was active in Sokol and participated in the American Sokol Slet in Chicago in 1953. She was chosen ski queen in Squaw Valley, California, January 20, 1955. She was active in many types of sports such as basketball, softball, tennis, bowling and boat sailing, which caused her untimely death. Survivors are her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Karlik; four brothers, Frank Karlik, Jr., Bobbie Karlik, Billy Karlik and Wayne Karlik, all of West; one sister, Miss Irene Karlik of West.
