Rites Held For City Commissioner Emmett L. Barton Mr. Emmett Louis Barton died at his home Tuesday, July 16, 1963, following a six-month illness. He was 63. Funeral services for Mr. Barton were held Thursday, July 18, at 9:30 a.m. at the West Catholic Church of the Assumption. Rev. James Quilter officiated with burial in St. Mary's Cemetery. Rosary was recited Wednesday evening at 8:00 p.m. at Aderhold Funeral Chapel. Mr. Barton was born November 21, 1899, in West, to the late Mr. and Mrs. Frank Barton, both from Czechoslovakia. He was married to the former Mary Polasek in 1926. In 1925, Mr. Barton founded the Barton Cleaners in West remaining in that business until April, 1963, when illness forced him to retire. Prior to that, he was employed with Sanger Bros. wholesale department in Waco, for R.W. White in sales promotion, and at Keen's Dry Goods Store in West. In April, 1959, he was elected City Commissioner of West. He served in this capacity until his death. He was a member of SPJST Lodge No. 54 for many years and also a member of the West Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Barton was well-known throughout the area, having lived here almost all of his life. Business establishments in West remained closed during the funeral services. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Mary Barton; two sons, Lambert Barton of West, and Emmett Louis Barton Jr. of Pampa; one daughter, Miss Celesta Barton of West; two brothers, Adolph Barton of Waco, and Joe Barton of Dallas, and five grandchildren. Pallbearers were Rudolph Troubil of Taylor, George E. Kacir, John Kubala, Chas. Smajstrla, Jos. F. Holasek, and Elo Zatopek.
