Bio

Lena Uptmore of Waco, a homemaker, died Thursday in a local nursing home. She was 91. Graveside services at Rosemound Cemetery, the Rev. Martin Rabbitte and George W Varner III officiating. Mrs. Uptmore, formerly Lena Schutza, was born September 11, 1903, in Hill County near Malone. She was educated in a German Lutheran School in Hill County. When she was 8 years old, her grandmother, Caroline Greene Kruger, taught her to crochet, tat and sew. She used the skills throughout her life, making clothes and needlepoint items for her family and friends. Mrs. Uptmore was preceded in death by her husband, Tom Uptmore, and her youngest daughter, Betty Yoli. Survivors one son, Tommy Uptmore of Waco; three daughters Madge Shelton of Fort Worth, Evelyn Varner and Delores Humphreys, both of Waco; one sister, Anna Chocek of California. Waco Tribune Herald
