Sheridan County friends of William Karns were pained to learn of his sudden death which occurred at his home at Bayard, Nebraska, last week. Will was a good fellow, who purposed always to do the right thing by his fellow man, and we know that his business associates and friends at Bayard will greatly miss his friendly hand shake and pleasant smile for he was always congenial and friendly and counted his friends by the score. Obituary The following obituary was sent to the Sentinel this week: William Henry Karnes was born in Illinois, February 26, 1867, and died at his home in Bayard, Nebraska, September 23, 1921, age 54 years, 6 months, and 26 days. When but 13 years of age, he came with his parents to Sheridan County, Kansas, where he grew to manhood and was married to Miss Sarah Jane Foster, February 15, 1897. Five children came to bless their home, Fred Everett, of Hoxie, Stephen Edward, Bessie Eva Mae, Nellie Lucinda, and a child who died in infancy. He left home at his usual hour on the night of September 23 to go to his work at the sugar mill where he was employed, and reached the time keeper's office where he was seen sitting on a step. Only a few minutes later he was found about fifteen feet from the office where he had fallen. He leaves besides his wife and four children, four brothers and two sisters; Herbert, John, and Edward of Hoxie, Kansas, and Stephen, of Denver, Colorado, and Della Dawes, and Eva Long, of Hoxie. Mr. Karnes moved to Bayard, Nebraska, about four years ago and located at Bayard. He was a charter member of the Church of Christ at Bayard. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. S. Kline, of Alliance, Nebraska, and burial was made at Bayard. The Hoxie Sentinel. Kenneth, Kansas · Thursday, October 06, 1921. Page 1. Retrieved online at newspapers.com
