MARVIN E. JOHNSON GRANITE FALLS - Marvin Eugene "Gene" Johnson, 90, of North Main Street, Granite Falls, died Tuesday, March 15, 2005. He was born July 4, 1914, in Caldwell County to the late Marvin Cyrus Johnson and Ula Mae Fowler Johnson. Mr. Johnson was a member of First United Methodist Church of Granite Falls, where he held many offices and served on the church board. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and worked at Broyhill Furniture as a plant manager and later retired as the purchasing agent. Mr. Johnson served as a council member for the town of Granite Falls from 1973 until 1979. He also served on the board of Granite Building & Loan, which is now RBC Centura, from 1973 to the early 1990s. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Carita Lefever Johnson; four brothers; and four sisters. He is survived by his "boys," Eddie Lefever, Michael J. Lefever, George Lefever, Michael Z. Lefever and Mitchell Lefever; nephews, Marvin J. Earley, Joe Bill Earley and Gregory Earley, all of Granite Falls; nieces, Helaine Earley Shew of Lenoir and Karen Earley Randle of Granite Falls; and several other nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be held Friday, March 18, 2005, at 11 a.m. at First United Methodist Church of Granite Falls, with the Revs. Kyle Randle and Tom Hunter officiating. Mr. Johnson will lie in state from 10:30 to 11 a.m. at the church. Burial will follow in Pinecrest Cemetery. The family will receive friends today, Thursday, March 17, 2005, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Mackie-High Funeral Home. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be the Men's Bible Class of First United Methodist Church of Granite Falls. Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church Building Fund, P.O.
