Don Spain, 92, of Decatur, Texas, departed for his Heavenly home on April 29, 2023, to join family members awaiting his arrival. He was surrounded by loving family and friends as he left this life in his home in Decatur. A celebration of a life well-lived will be held at 10 am Saturday, May 6, at Gospel Life Christian Academy in Decatur with burial to follow at Oaklawn Cemetery in Decatur; his family will greet friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Don was born May 12, 1930, in Decatur, to Clyde Warren and Nellie Christine (Rawle) Spain. On December 30, 1948, he married Naomi Ruth Gage in Decatur. Don was later called by God to be a pastor and ministered to congregations in Boyd, Coleman, Shreveport, Louisiana, Greenville, and Bowie before retiring, for the first time, in 1985. Sadly, he lost his beloved Naomi to cancer in 1986. On July 2, 1987, Don married Rudean Hix in Decatur. He was then asked to help a group of people organize a church and became the founding pastor of Eagle Drive Baptist Church in Decatur where he was still serving as pastor emeritus at the time of his passing. Don was also a talented woodworker and owned Nu Way Cabinet Shop in Decatur. His work can be seen in houses and businesses all across Wise County and points beyond. Most of all, Don, or as his grandchildren called him, "Pa," loved his family as they were the most precious thing to him and loved spending time with them. Don was a faithful servant of the Lord and will be dearly missed by everyone who came to know him. Don was preceded in death by his wife Naomi Ruth Spain; daughters Lana, Dana, and Cindy Michelle Spain; stepson Jim Hix; brothers Warren and Clyde Spain, Jr.; sisters Leona Burk, Alma Maxey, and Emodine Boydston. Don is survived by his wife Rudean Spain of Decatur; sister Nell Stone of Decatur; daughters Gayle Spain of Decatur, Cheryl Mosley and husband David of Decatur, Terri Cramer of Granbury; son Cliff Spain and wife Rayna of Mineral Wells; grandchildren Scott Mosley and wife LeAnna of Decatur, Bart Mosley and wife Amy of Decatur, Lindsey Stevenson and husband Craig of Battlefield, Missouri, Jennifer Vega and husband Martin of Midland, Kris Spain and wife Kayla of Mineral Wells, 11 great-grandchildren; his loving caregiver Kim Foust; and numerous other extended family members. Arrangements entrusted to Hudson and Torres Family Funeral Home in Bridgeport.
