paper and date unknown Fred Sund died April 6 Fred Sund, who had lived in Superior since 1919, and before that lived in the Guide Rock and Burr Oak communities for many years, passed away Friday evening, April 6, at the age of 86 years, 3 months and 8 days. His death followed a week's illness as the result of a heart attack and he died at the home of his daughter, Mrs Lena Smith. Born December 28, 1869 in Germany, Mr Sund came to the United States with his parents, John and Mary Sund, when he was 1 1-2 years old. They settled on a farm near Thorton, Ill., now a part of Chicago, where they lived for three years, then moved to a farm near Burr Oak, Kan., where Mr Sund grew to manhood. He rode the open range on horseback from Burr Oak to Anselmo many times. He was employed on a ranch at Anselmo for several years. At the age of twenty-two he began farming for himself near the home of his parents. On March 6, 1891, he was united in marriage to Miss Minnie Williams at Mankato, Kan. they lived on the farm near Burr Oak for a while before moving to the Nuckolls county farm near Guide Rock where they lived and reared their family. They came to Superior to retire in 1919. Six children were born to Mr and Mrs Sund, one dying in infancy and a daughter, Nellie Leeson on August 13, 1954. He was preceded in death by his wife on January 9, 1955, and by his parents and three sisters. Surviving are his daughters, Mrs Lena Smith, Superior and Mrs Ceona Purscell of Red Cloud, sons, Oscar of Guide Rock and William of Hastings, 18 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren and one brother, Charlie Sund of Guide Rock. Funeral Services were held at the Mergrue Funeral Home in Superior Monday, April 9, with Rev Bryant Currier officiating. Interment was at Evergreen cemetery in Superior.
