Bio
Nellie Bird Barton passed away peacefully at her home in Springville, on Saturday, June 12, 1999, of causes incident to age. Nell was born in Springville, Utah, on September 15, 1913, to Walter Freeman Bird and Lucinda Childs Bird. She suffered a tremendous loss at the age of nine months, when her mother passed away in her sleep. Her father, having nine other children and being unable to care for his little girl, allowed her to be raised by his cousins Ernest and Lydia Sumsion of Springville. She married Daniel Martin Barton on August 9, 1932, in San Bernardino, California. They were sealed in the Hawaiian LDS Temple on August 9, 1964. Nell was preceded in death by her husband, Mart, and a daughter-in-law, Jean C. Barton. She is survived by her five children: Robert 'D' (Dolores) Barton, Nampa, ID; Jess E. (Mary Jo) Barton; Daniel K. Barton, Carma (Jim) Duncan; Elaine (Arnie) Brown, all of Springville; 18 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; her sisters: Helen Helquist, Camarillo, CA; Elaine Jack, Eugene, OR; sisters-in-law: Jessie Shipp and Eloise Bird of Springville; and Norma Nell Smith of Gainsville, FL; brothers-in-law: Gerlad Barton of Kenniwick, WA; and Keith Baron of Beaver. Burial was June 16, 1999.
