Bio
Services for Roy Lee Montgomery, 85, of Slaton, will be 2 p.m., Monday, Oct. 26, 2009 at First Baptist Church with Dr. Cleve Kerby officiating. Interment will follow in Englewood Cemetery under the direction of Englunds Funeral Service of Slaton. Roy Lee was born on Nov. 3, 1923 in Point, Texas; he passed from this life on Oct. 23, 2009. Roy Lee married Lola Lee Mosely on Dec. 6, 1947 in Snyder. They moved to Slaton in 1951, when they entered the irrigation pump service with Western Pump Service. Roy Lee was a pioneer in the pump service business in this area. He retired in 2002 from Montgomery Irrigation Service due to his health. Roy Lee was a member of Lakeridge Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon, was very active in the Baptist Association and in mission building, and taught Sunday school for 50 years. He was also a member of the Slaton Chamber of Commerce, an avid hunter and fisherman and accomplished blue grass musician. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gradie and Frankie Montgomery; a son, Danny, in 2005; brothers, Raymond, in 2009, Willie, in 2006, and Melvin, in 2002; and sisters; Cordie Owens, in 1970, and Dovie Hart, in 1983. His survivors include his bride of 61 years, Lola; sons, Glenn and wife Beverly Montgomery and Jerry and Jo Edna Montgomery, all of Slaton; daughter, Treva and husband Gary Potter of Levelland; brother, Gradie of Slaton; sisters, Pat Montgomery of Ft. Worth and Mildred Wilson of Irving; 12 grandchildren, Lee Ann Jackson, Cody (Melissa) Potter, Casey Potter, Clay (Jenni) Potter, Chance (Haylee) Potter and Cade Potter, all of Levelland, Jared Montgomery of Lubbock, Jill Crisman (Matt) of Abilene, Shelly Moses (Nathan) of Denton, Darby Kirkland (Josh) of Vega, and Lori and Rachael Montgomery, both of Slaton; great-grandchildren, Haylee Jackson, Rayden Potter, Casen Potter, Gage Potter, Jake Potter and Briar Potter, all of Levelland, and Colbie Moses of Denton.
