Bio

Brown, Cleon Born June 4,1929. Passed away on June 16,2005 at age 76. He was the founding Pastor of Dallas Pentecostal Church in the Pleasant Grove area of Dallas. Always constrained by love to give of himse1f and of his resources to those in need, he resigned his pulpit after 46 years, at age 75, in order to devote his full time to walking the streets of South Dallas and Pleasant Grove so that he could encourage those cast out, those oppressed, the homeless among us. Not necessarily large in physical stature, he was a giant of a man in soul and spirit, having set a Godly example that we would do well to emulate. Having graduated as Valedictorian of the Mesquite High School class of '48, he was also a state finalist as a mile runner in track. Upon hearing the call of God, however, . he traded in his track shoes for the black wingtips of a Pastor, running the race of the ministry, and never looked back until he crossed the finish line. Always the altruist, he began donating a meaningful sum of money each year as a scholarship for the graduating Valedictorian and Salutatorian of Mesquite High. Dad, there will be a void in our hearts that no one else can fill, until we see your face again. Your grandchildren, as well as Sean and Ryan, wish to say that ''we love you Papaw'' and that we will miss you so much. He is survived by his adoring wife of 55 years, Dalma, his loving daughters and sons-in-law, Anita and Jim Weems, Trish and Tom Thompson, and his loving daughter-in-law and son, Laura and Keith Brown. He is also survived by grandchildren Greg and his wife Nancy, Angela, Jeremy, Nathan, Aaron, Cameron, Justin, and great grandchildren, Sean, Ryan, Chellsea, and was preceded in death by a great grandchild, Levi. He is also survived by sisters and brothers-in-law, Leona and Mack Ellis, Helen and Bill Robertson, Cletus and Roe Cleaver, Oleta and Bobby Jones, sisters, Minnie Hoover, Cleo Woods, and brother, J. C. Brown. Pallbearers will be Phillip and Mark Brown, Ken Cleaver, David and Brian Ellis, and Jim Hoover. Honorary Pallbearers will be Gerry Cleaver, Dean, Jerry, and Ray Hoover, Bobby Jones, and Darryl Wayne Woods. Funeral services will be on Monday, June 20, at 10:00a.m. at Dallas Pentecostal Church. Services will be conducted jointly by Rev. Joe Campbell, Rev. Wayne Brashear, and Rev. Len McLaughlin. As is indicative of his life, Dad has requested that if you wish to honor his memory , take time to give of yourself, and your resources, to a homeless person in need. Tell them that God loves them, and help them in your own way. Also, the family wishes to thank the loving and compassionate medical staff of Baylor University Medical Center for their valiant efforts to extend the life of our loved one.
