Bio

Johnie Vestel York, age 87 passed away Sunday evening, April 12, 2009 in St. Louis, Missouri. Johnie was born October 8, 1921 in Melrose, Arkansas one of ten children. He served his country in WWII. He is survived by wife of 61 years Rae Dean (Lawrence) York and loving father of four children; Kim (Dave) Whitley, Tammy (David) Dwyer, Jerry (Tina) York and Reta (Keven) Gallagher; nine grandchildren, Kristel, Spring, Eren, Amy, Jerry, Tony, David, Josh, Sean; one brother, Erwin of Melrose, Ark.; one sister, Susie of Modesto, Calif. and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Minnie York; brothers, Willie, Pete, Adler and Berry; sisters, May, Artie and Idell. Johnie lived a long full life. He was a fighter right to the very end. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Faith Hospice, 11040 Lin-Valle Dr., St. Louis, MO 63123 or Peregrine Society, 2343 Hampton Ave., St. Louis, MO 63139. Visitation is 5 - 8 p.m., April 14, 2009 at Roller Crouch Chapel, Mtn. View, Ark. Funeral service is 11 a.m., April 15, 2009 at Roller Crouch Chapel, Mtn. View, Ark.
