Bio

May Gray Hughes, 90, of Batesville died today, Jan. 12, 2001, at Batesville. Born Nov. 28, 1910, in Marcella, she was the daughter of John and Minnie York. She was a member of the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Pleasant Grove. Survivors include a son, Lester Gray of Alton, Mo.; a daughter, Lucille Sutton of Southside; two brothers, Johnny York of St. Louis and Erwin York of Locust Grove; two sisters, Susie Mendes of Denair, Calif., and Idell Gardner of Pleasant Plains; 13 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; 13 great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Onus Gray; a son, Chester Gray; a daughter, Louise Jenkins; a sister; and four brothers. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Pleasant Grove. Burial will be at York Cemetery with arrangements by Roller-Crouch Funeral Home of Batesville. Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday.
