Ferguson Answers Death Summons The death of M. C. Ferguson at his home in this city Saturday night removes from our midst another of our pioneer, substantial citizens. His death was not unexpected, as he had been confined to his bed the past four months, and for two or three weeks had lingered between life and death. When first stricken, he was carried to Dallas where he underwent an operation but this failed to give him relief. The exact cause of his illness and death was not determined. The funeral was held Sunday afternoon at 4:30 at the Baptist church – the church he had done so much for and loved so well. Every available space was filled with sorrowing friends, and some were unable to get inside the building. His former pastor, Rev. Elmer Ridgeway of Duncan, conducted the service. It was a beautiful service and the speaker paid glowing tribute to the life and character of the departed one. Burial was in Green Hill cemetery under auspices of the Masonic fraternity. Moses Cunningham Ferguson was born in Polk county, Tenn., June 3, 1859, making him 67 years of age at last birthday. He moved with his parents to Grayson county, Texas, in 1874, and lived in Bosque county a few years before coming to Davis in 1888. He was married three times – first to Miss Maggie Rich, and their four children died in infancy. His second marriage was to Miss Fannie Russell, and their daughter Mrs. Maggie McMakin now resides at Atoka, Okla. About 27 years ago he married Miss Pearl McIntosh, who with their five children survive, namely: Miss May, Mack, Mrs. Brad Moore, Tom and Byrd. Mack is in South America and could not be present at the funeral. The deceased also leaves three sisters, Mrs. Mollie Ellis of Davis, Mrs. Susie Brents and Mrs. Lula Gibson of Ada, and one brother, Rev. J. S. Ferguson of Davis. He was converted and joined the Missionary Baptist church in East Tennessee when 14 years of age. He was church clerk and treasurer of the Davis church for a long time, and was one of that church's most faithful and loyal workers. Mr. Ferguson was one of Davis' most estimable men. Living here for 38 years, he saw the town grow and prosper, and he always did his part toward its growth and welfare. He was in business here at various times, and was known as an upright, fair-minded, Christian gentleman. He was faithful and dependable, and our city has lost one of its best citizens. He was a Scottish Rite Mason, and all the pall bearers were Scottish Rite Masons. Card of Thanks We are very grateful to our neighbors and friends for their many acts of kindness and assistance rendered during the illness, and expressions of sympathy at the death of our husband and father, M. C. Ferguson. We also thank you for the many beautiful flowers. Especially do we thank the Masons for their great assistance. We deeply appreciate all that was done for him and for us.
