(Kansas) The Belleville Telescope July 6, 1939, p. 8 Mrs. J. J. Moravek Mary, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Tom Hajny, was born January 2, 1859 at Prague, Bohemia, and died at her home in Washington, June 27, 1939 at the age of 83 years, 5 months and 25 days. At the age of nine she accompanied her parents to America settling near Marion, Ia., and when she was 25 the family moved to Esbon. On May 14, 1883, she was united in marriage to Joseph J. Moravek, and to this union were born eight children: Rosalie, Frank, Enna and Mary who died of diphtheria when nine, six, three years and 18 months old; and Joe of Greenleaf, Tom and Mrs. Charles Swiercinsky of Washington, and Bertha of the home, who survive. She is also survived by two sisters, Mrs. Anna Novacek and Mrs. Barbara Shunka of Schuyler, Neb.; five grandchildren, many other relatives and friends. The family lived for 24 years at Esbon, moving in 1907 to Munden, and in 1919 to Washington. She was christened in the Catholic church in Bohemia, and offered prayer daily. She was a loving mother, gladly sharing in the joy, work and pleasure of the home and family. Her life's saddest experience was the death of four children, who departed within a period of one month. Short funeral services were held at the home in Washington Friday morning, conducted by the Rev. Matthaei, and services were also conducted at the United Brethren church in Esbon. Interment was made at the Esbon cemetery.
