Bio

John E. Bean's ancestors came from Scotland and settled in South Carolina about 1775. In the year of 1852 they moved to Magnolia Springs in Jasper County, Texas. John E. was born June 22, 1851 and grew up in Jasper County, Texas. His death certificate shows he was born in Louisiana. He married Celia Eunice Ferrell Aug. 21, 1872 and they had six children. They moved to Grapeland in 1877 and purchased a tract of land one and one-half miles north of town. Their children did not receive a rich hertiage in worldly goods but received much love and Christian values. John was a farmer, public surveyor and Baptist preacher. He spent much time riding horseback to preach in small churches all over the county. Most of the farm work was done by his five boys. His parents were; James and Martha S. Bean. Father-; James Bean, born Feb 11, 1825. Died Apr 14 1886. Mother; Martha S. Bean, born Dec 4, 1830. No date as to death. Grandfather; John Egbert Bean, born Nov 21, 1792, died Nov 24, 1871. Grandmother; Jane Youngblood Bean, b. Apr 1795, died April 22, 1861. Buried in Magnolia Springs Cemetery, Magnolia Springs, Jasper County, Texas He died in Rusk, Cherokee County, Texas. He was a widower at the time of his death. His wife Eunice and two sons; May Egbert and John Ilai are buried in the Bean Family Plot. Otho Zaydock moved to Livingston Texas and remained there the rest of his life. He married Lillie M. Braggen Oct 26, 1905, Houston Co. Texas. They had four children; Arvel, Carol, Eola and Bonnie Jean. He died of a gunshot wound. The other children were; Edgar P. (could not decipher writing) b. 1873, James Ancel (Jim) b. 1876, and daughter Lennie Ausy b. 1883.
