Raymond Martin Rauschuber, age 80 of West, died Monday evening, May 27, 2002. A rosary will be recited 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel in West by Loretta and Tony Rauschuber. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Friday at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption with Rev. Ed Karasek as celebrant. Military Graveside Rites will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery near West conducted by VFW Post #4819 of West. Raymond was born on July 24, 1921 to Alois and Louise Rauschhuber in Tours. He graduated from the Academy of Mary Immaculate in Wichita Falls in 1936. At age 15 he became a full-time helper on his father's farm. In November, 1942, he volunteered to join the Navy. Raymond belonged to the 30th Naval Construction Battalion or "Sea Bees" until 1946. He served in the South Pacific during this turbulent time of World War II. After returning from Naval duty, his occupations included farming and working in the blacksmith business with his brothers, where he farmed in Louisiana, south Texas, and Arizona. In 1953, he married Helen Lenart. They lived in West for two years before moving to Iowa Park near Wichita Falls where he owned a pipe construction company with his brothers. They returned to West in 1960, and he continued carpentry for the next 20 years in the West, Waco and Austin areas. He enjoyed coaching the girls' softball team, attending the boys' baseball games, and sharing time with his family on various outings. At the age of 59, Raymond became disabled but he continued his hobby of woodworking. He was a member of St. Mary's Church of the Assumption in West as well as KJT Society #31 in West. Raymond was also a member of the VFW of West. He is preceded in death by his parents, Alois and Louise Rauschhuber, as well as two brothers, Frank and Eddie Rauschuber. He is survived by his beloved wife, Helen Rauschuber; three sons, Anthony Rauschuber, S.J. of Tampa, Florida, Mark Rauschuber and wife Julie of La Place, Louisiana, and Ed Rauschuber of Coppell; four daughters, Annette Drinkwater and husband Tom of Coppell, Loretta Rauschuber of Rome, Italy, Mary Black and husband Charlie of Flower Mound, and Amy Hutyra and husband Mark of West. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren, T. J., Emily and Erin Drinkwater, Paige, Austin and Parker Rauschuber, Chandler, Lucas, Garrett and Marcus Black, and Claire, Katie and Natalie Hutyra. Other survivors include three brothers, John and Patrick Rauschhuber of West and Al Rauschhuber and wife Ellen of Santa Clara, California; three sisters, Edna Thun, Louise Bartosh and husband Bill of West, and Irene Brem of Bellmead; two sister-in-laws, Nancy King of Corinth and Florence Rauschuber of Houston. Raymond is also survived by 46 nieces and nephews. Aderhold Funeral Home in West is in charge of arrangements.
