Bio
Mabel Burnett was born on October 7, 1926 in Ragley, LA, the sixth child of Harvey Elbert "Ebb" Burnett and Maude Rena Hodges Burnett. Mabel met John Sidney Searcy at work and married him on May 28, 1954 in Lake Charles, LA. They were the parents of three children: Deborah Kay Searcy, John Riley Searcy, and Brenda Jean Searcy. Obituary: Mabel Searcy, a resident of Westerville, OH, formerly of Greenville, AL passed away on August 5, 1986. Graveside services will be held Tuesday, August 12, 1986 at 11am from St. Paul Cemetery with Minister Bob Faulk officiating and Dunklin-Herndon Funeral Home directing. She is survived by her husband, John S. Searcy; one son, John R. Searcy, both of Westerville; two daughters, Debbie Groves, Kansas, Brenda Searcy, Westerville; two sisters; and one brother. Published in The Montgomery Advertiser on August 11, 1986. NOTE: A direct lineal female descendant of Mabel's mother, Maude Hodges Burnett, participated in The Genographic Project. Testing indicates Mabel was a member of the K1c1b mitochondrial DNA haplogroup, as was Oetzi, The Iceman.
