Ruby Mae Burnett was born on April 22, 1923 in Ragley, Beauregard Parish, Louisiana. She was the daughter of Harvey Elbert Burnett and Maude Rena Hodges. She married Charles Darwin "Charlie" Keip on April 7, 1955. They were the parents of Karl Henry Keip. In addition to being a wife and mother, Ruby worked side-by-side with Charlie in the restaurant business for several years; first with Charlie's Restaurant in Lake Jackson and later the Twin Oaks restaurant in West Columbia. She was the cashier to their customers and Ms. Ruby to the staff. She was an avid gardener, and took great pleasure in sharing the riches of her green thumb. Many friends, relatives, and neighbors have enjoyed her homemade pickles and home grown lemons. Mrs. Keip, 90, "graduated" from this life, surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, June 22, 2013, at the home of her son in Georgetown, Williamson Co, Texas. Ruby was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Charles Keip, her parents, and all of her siblings: James Eldon Burnett, William Freeman Burnett, Opal Burnett Kelton, Jewel Burnett Harper, Mabel Burnett Searcy, and Joseph Raymond Burnett. She is survived by her son Karl and wife Mary of Georgetown; her granddaughter Coral Richline and husband Michael Jr., and great granddaughter Alexandra of Corpus Christi; granddaughter Sarah Keip of Georgetown; and granddaughter Rachael Keip of Georgetown. Visitation was Friday evening, June 29, 2013, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Baker Funeral Home in West Columbia. The funeral service was held at 10:00 AM, Saturday, June 30, 2013, at The Lighthouse Church (formerly Apostolic Lighthouse) in West Columbia, Texas. Pastor Danny Johnson officiated. Burial followed at Columbia Cemetery in West Columbia. Services were under the direction of Baker Funeral Home, 634 S. Columbia Dr., West Columbia, TX 77486; phone:(979) 345-3232. NOTE: A direct lineal female descendant of Ruby's mother, Maude Hodges Burnett, participated in The Genographic Project. Testing indicates Ruby was a member of the K1c1b mitochondrial DNA haplogroup, as was Oetzi, The Iceman. ∼ Kiep, Ruby Mae , b. 4/22/1923, d. 6/22/2013, OCC-1-32-17-4
