SULPHUR — The funeral for Joseph R. Burnett, 78, will be at 9:30 a.m. Monday, July 16, 2007, in Apostolic Temple, 3940 Holly Hill Road in Lake Charles. The Revs. Ricky Treece and Steve Davis will officiate. Burial will be in Magnolia Cemetery in Ragley under the direction of Robison Funeral Home of Sulphur, 107 W. Napoleon St. Visitation is 3-9 p.m. today in the funeral home and from 8:30 a.m. Monday in the church. Mr. Burnett passed away at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 14, in Sulphur with his loved ones at his side. He was born May 5, 1929, in Ragley and was a lifelong resident of Sulphur. He was an Army veteran and served as a PFC U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of Apostolic Temple and retired from Cities Service as a operator after more than 35 years of service. He was a member of American Legion Post 179 and Operating Engineers Local 407. He was one of the first beefalo breeders in the state of Louisiana and was a member of the American Beefalo Association. Serving as pallbearers will be Chad Davis, Landon Davis, Carson Davis, John David Dickinson III, Jason Dickinson and Jeremy Montz. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harvey Elbert Burnett and Maude Hodges Burnett. Survivors include his wife, Lillie Mae Areno Burnett of Sulphur; son, Daniel Raymond Burnett and wife Joani of Van Buren, AR; two daughters, Mary Elizabeth Davis and husband Steve of Van Buren and Carol Ann Bergeth and husband Bob of Granger, IN; sister, Ruby Mae Keip and husband Charles of Brazoria, TX; mother of his children, Joyce Ferguson Burnett of Van Buren, AR; stepson, John David "Dicky" Dickinson Jr. and wife Genny of Carlyss; stepdaughter, Sherrina Dickinson Montz and husband Ricky of Sulphur; 10 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; five stepgrandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Here lies the body of poor old Joe. He loved to live, but he had to go. In sin he was born, in Christ he died. Now he's with Jesus on the other side.
