Bio

Roana Hill Washburn (Mrs. Eliphaz Washburn), born cir. 1815/1816, died on Friday, August 18th, 1882; she was aged 67. Mrs. Washburn was a native of Vermont, moving to Rockford, Illinois, many years ago, and to Dakota in 1869. She died at the residence of her son, H. C. [Henry Clay] Washburn, after many months of suffering from the fatal inroads of cancer. The funeral was largely attended on Sunday by our old settlers. The relatives of the late Mrs. E. Washburn extend their sincere thanks to the many friends who rendered them assistance in their late bereavement. Dakota Republican, Vermillion, South Dakota, August 24, 1882
