PFC 17 INF 7 INF DIV WWII Pfc. Leander Hoelscher, son of Mr. & Mrs. A. F. Hoelscher of West, graduated from Tokio High School. He entered the Army in 1944 and trained at Camp Hood, Texas. He served in Hawaii and Okinawa. He was awarded GCM, Purple Heart and Inf. Badge. He was killed in action in Okinawa in 1945. Pvt. Hoelscher To Be Reburied At Westphalia The body of Pvt. Leander (Dick) Hoelscher will arrive in Rosebud at 9:15 a.m. Saturday, February 26th. Nicholson Funeral Home will take the body to the residence of his parents at Westphalia where it will lie in state until time of burial. Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at 3 o'clock, Father Schertz, cousin of the deceased, officiating. Services will be in the Church of Visitation in Westphalia, with burial in St. Mary's Cemetery, where members of the Westphalia VFW will be in charge. Rosary will be recited at the residence of the family at 7:30 p.m. Saturday. Private Hoelscher was killed in action June 8, 1945 while serving with the Infantry on Okinawa. He was born October 24, 1925 near West and spent his entire life here. He attended West Public schools, St. Mary's Parochial School and graduated from Tokio High School where he was a star basketball player. Surviving are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. A.F. Hoelscher of Lott; six sisters, Miss Elsie Hoelscher, Mrs. J.C. Moeller, Lott, Mrs. Eddie Miller, Mrs. Bill Cypert, Waco, Mrs. Mike Glatter, Mrs. Wm. Berger, West; two brothers, Robert and Otto Hoelscher of Lott.
