Samuel and Bernice married the sister and brother, Alta and Harry Oberkotter. The Burwell Tribune, Thursday, August 17, 1961, pg 5 Funeral Services For The Late Sam Jeffres Conducted Wednesday The funeral services for the late Samuel E. Jeffres, were conducted Wednesday afternoon, August 16th, from the Christian Church, with Mr. Dean Donner, Minister, officiating. The selections, "It's No Secret" and "The Old Rugged Cross", were sug by Mrs. Edna Mae Hoppes and Mrs. Virginia Olcott; Mrs. Iva Helmkamp, accompanist. Paulbearers were Richard Burnham, Dean Maxfield, Clarence Jurgensen, Spencer Horner, Marvin Donner and Fred Meinecke. Interment was made in Cottonwood Cemetery, Burwell. OBITUARY Samuel E. Jeffres, son of Clarence and Minnie Jeffres, was born February 7, 1901, at Horace, Nebraska, and passed away August 14, 1961, at the Community Memorial Hospital in Burwell, Nebraska, at the age of 60 years, 6 months and 7 days. Sam moved with his parents at an early age, to a farm five miles south of Burwell. He was immersed into Christ at the Burwell Christian Church at about the age of twelve. He was united in marriage to Alta R. Oberkotter, at Burwell, on January 26, 1921. To this union three children were born, Doris Irene, Vance Ernest and Lois Marlene. Sam was a farmer, and he lived his entire life in the Burwell community. He was a kind and loving husband, a devoted father, and a kindly and understanding grandfather. He was also a very good neighbor to anyone in need. Mr. Jeffres was preceded in death by his mother and a sister, Florence. He leaves to mourn his demise, his wife, Alta; daughter, Mrs. Louis Pishna, his son, Vance Jeffres, of Burwell, another daughter, Mrs. Dermot Erington, Jr. of O'Neill, Nebraska; eight grandsons; two granddaughters; two great granddaughters; his father, Clarence who lives in Burwell; one sister, Mrs. Harry Oberkotter; and one brother, Ernest Jeffres who live in Sandpoint, Idaho. He leaves one brother James Jeffres of Burwell, one son-in-law, one daughter-in-law and a host of relatives and friends also of Burwell. The other son-in-law in O'Neill, Nebraska.
