George Meduna Obituary George L. Meduna, 81, of Wahoo died Monday, May 23, 2005, at Saunders County Hospital in Wahoo. He was born Feb. 4, 1924, in rural Weston to Louis and Ludmilla (Bartek) Meduna. He attended country school near Weston. He entered the U.S. Army in June 1944 and was honorably discharged in September 1945 after being wounded in action while serving in the Asiatic Pacific Theater. He received the Purple Heart, the Asiatic Pacific Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal and the Philippines Liberation Service Ribbon. He married Ludmilla Coufal on Jan. 28, 1948, in Dwight. They lived on a farm near Weston and a farm near Wahoo for several years before moving to Wahoo in 1964. He was a member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church and Wahoo Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4502. Survivors include: his wife; a son, George J. Meduna of Lincoln; three daughters, Mary Ann (Mrs. Chris) High and Janice (Mrs. Mark) Meyerson, all of Lincoln, and Diane (Mrs. Tim) Nelson of Wahoo; a brother, Julius Meduna of Weston; two sisters, Theresa Benal of California and Delores Bongers of Florida; and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister. The funeral will be 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Wahoo with the Rev. John Cooper officiating. Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. Wednesday at Svoboda Funeral Home in Wahoo. A rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery in Wahoo with military rites by VFW Post 4502 and American Legion Post 82. Memorials have been established to Saunders County Hospital, Saunders County Hospice, Alcoholics Anonymous and for Masses.
