Bio

Tula Maude Phillips (known as Maude) was born 7 July 1892 in Kensington, Walker, Georgia, USA. She was 2nd of the five children born to Robert Perry Phillips (1856-1939) and Martha Christina [Bowers] Phillips (1867-1942). Siblings: Stephen Henry Phillips (1887-1970), James Thomas Phillips (1895-1937), Sallie Belle [Phillips] Pittman/Mitchell (1899-1962), Mary Mae [Phillips] Hamilton? (1902-1983). She was married to Thomas Jefferson Johnson (1880-1950). They are the parents of two daughters, Mary Nelle [Johnson] Mathis (1917-2005) and Martha Almeda [Johnson] Ireland (1919-2012). Towards the end of her life, Maude moved to Knoxville, Tennessee to be close to her younger daughter Martha. She was 93 years of age when she passed away in Knoxville, Knox, Tennessee in May of 1986. Her remains were brought back to Georgia where she was laid to rest next to her husband, Tom, in the Coulter Memorial Cemetery in Cassandra, Walker, Georgia.
