The Lawrence Locomotive (Lawrence, NE), Thursday, August 17, 1944; pg. 1 Last Rites Held For Gerhart Schroer Funeral Services were held Monday morning for Gerhart Schroer, long time and prominant resident of St. Stephens and Lawrence, who passed away at his home in Lawrence Saturday morning Aug. 12, 1944, at 3:00 a.m. He had been in failing health for sometime but did not become critically ill until the day before his death. Born in Manste land Germany on Nov. 19, 1862 at the time of his death he had reached the age of 81 yr. 8 months and 28 days. At the age of 5 years he came to America with his parents and settled on a farm near West Point, Iowa. In the year 1884 he came to Nebraska and was married to Miss Lena Bentler on May 24th, 1887, in St. Stephens Church. They settled on a farm southwest of St. Stephens where they resided until last September, when they moved to Lawrence. Mr. Schroer is survived by his wife and six children, 4 daughters Mrs. Frank Pohlmeier of Hindsdale Ill. Mrs. Frank Buescher, Mrs. Herman Menke and Mrs. Alvin Witte. Two sons, Frank and Paul all of this vicinity. 1 daughter died in infancy, also surviving are 34 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren, 2 sisters Mrs. Theo Schutte of Lawrence and Mrs. Herman Schutte of Indianola Nebr. both were also present at the funeral. The pastor Very Rev. F. J. Kopecky , officiated at the Requiem Mass, Monday morning at 9 a.m. and was in charge of the services at the grave in St. Stephens cemetary. Pall bearers all grandsons of the deceased were Herbert Pohlmeier of Hinsdale Ill Ernest and Aloys Schroer, Edgar Buescher, Vincent Menke and Ronald Witte. Out of town relatives attending the funeral were Mrs. Frank Pohlmeier and son of Hinsdale Ill., Mrs. Herman Schutte and daughter Mrs. Frank Sughrue of Indianola Mrs. J. E. Barrett of Baltimore, Md., Mrs. Mary Gerdes of Council Bluffs, Iowa and Mrs. Ethel Cooper of St. Joe Mo. The latter three being sisters of Mrs. Schroer. =================== Henry Grabenschroer and his wife Anna are the parents of Gerhard Schroer.
