Bio

Nellie Cibell Grubaugh was born 30 Nov 1887 in Omaha, Douglas, NE to William Jefferson Grubaugh and Josephine Abney. She was the youngest of 5 children born to her parents, all girls. 2 of them died shortly after birth. Her father died in 1904. Nellie married William Morton Carman in 1908 and they moved to Alameda County, CA. They had one child, Jewell E. Carman Lang (1913-1963). Sometime between 1920 and 1924, Nellie and William divorced. He died in Tehama County, CA in 1951. Nellie married William Frederick Carpenter in about 1924. They had one child, Shirley J. Carpenter born in 1926. Nellie's mother, Josephine, lived with her and her various husbands until she was placed in the IOOF home in Saratoga, CA. William Carpenter died in 1954, but Nellie never remarried. Nellie died 15 May 1972 in Concord, Contra Costa, CA.
