Last rites will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Zion Lutheran chruch, Grand Prairie, Platte Center. The Rev. Clifford Swanson is to officiate, and burial will be in the church cemetery. The body will lie in state after 1 p.m. Tuesday at McKown Funeral Home, and after 9 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Mr. Janssen was born Aug. 22, 1885, in Oldenburg, Germany, the son of Bernard and Margaret Borchers Janssen. At the age of nine years he came with his parents to Platte county. He was confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran church, Columbus. He was married to Katie Gehring May 31, 1911, at Grand Prairie, Platte Center. Mr. Janssen farmed in Grand Prairie township until moving to Columbus in 1949. Mr. Janssen was a Lutheran. He was treasurer several years of Dist. 28, Grand Prairie, and also served on the township board. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Harold (Viola) Osten of Columbus and Mrs. Wilfred (Lorraine) Hoessel of Leigh; three sons, Alvin, Harold and Gilbert Janssen of Platte Center; 12 grandchildren and one great-grandchild; two brothers, Bernhard of Columbus and Henry of Omaha; and two sisters, Mrs. Dena Mohlmann of Platte Center and Mrs. Minnie Rosenthal of Creston. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents; three brothers, August, John and Herman; and five sisters, Anna Borchers, Emma Schmit, Bertha Hellbusch, Lena Osten and Martha Linter. The family suggests that memorials be given to Zion Lutheran church, Grand Prairie. Edward Hassebook [sic] and Glenn Goering will be in charge.
