http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~neplatte/vitals/vitals1964.html The Daily Telegram, August 4, 1964 JANSSEN--Services for Mrs. Gerhard Janssen on Thursday Funeral services for Mrs. Gerhard (Katie) Janssen, 80, of 3306 16th street, will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Zion Lutheran church of Grand Prairie, northeast of Platte Center. Clifford Swanson will officiate, and burial will be in Zion Lutheran cemetery. The body now lies in state at McKown Funeral Home, and will be at the church from 9 a.m. Thursday until the hour of service. Mrs. Jansen [sic] died Monday at Boone County Community hospital in Albion after being in failing health for some time. She was born Oct 24, 1883, at Halloywayville, Ill, the daughter of Johann H. and Philippena Genglinger Gehring. On May 29, 1911, she was married to Gerhard Janssen at Zion Lutheran church. They resided on a farm in the Grand Prairie community until 1949, when they moved to Columbus. Mrs. Janssen was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. She was a member of Zion Lutheran church of Grand Prairie, and of the Ladies Aid. She is survived by her husband; three sons, Alvin, Harold and Gilbert, all of Platte Center; two daughters, Mrs. Harold (Viola) Osten of Columbus and Mrs. Wilfred (Lorraine) Hoessel of Leigh; and 12 grandchildren. Mrs. Janssen was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Edna; her parents; four brothers, Henry, Louis, George and Fred Gehring; and four sisters, Mrs. Leopold (Elizabeth) Siebler, Mrs. Anthony (Minnie) Hassebrook, Mrs. Herman (Bena) Janssen and Mrs. Bernard (Emma) Janssen.
