Obituary write up from The Wellington Leader September 1, 1983: "Graveside services for Mrs. Harold Magatagan of Artesia, New Mexico, the former Vada Crawley, were conducted at 11: 30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 25. A retired home economics teacher, she began her career in Wellington High School and also taught at Memphis, Midland, San Marcos, and Artesia. In El Paso, she taught at the college level. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, and served on its official board. She belonged to First United Methodist Women, Delta Kappa Gamma and the Artesia Garden Club and was president of each. She held a master's degree in flower judging. Mrs. Magatagan was born Dec. 9, 1902, in East Texas, the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. G.H. Crawley. Mrs. Crawley died while the family lived at Tulia, and Mr. Crawley brought his children to the Loco community. He moved to Wellington when Mrs. Magatagan entered high school where she graduated with the Class of 1923. She received a bachelor's degree from Texas Women's University in Denton, and a master degree from Colorado State University. She was married to Harold Magatagan Feb. 5, 1943 in Roswell, New Mexico. Survivors are her husband and a sister Mrs. O.M. Gunstream of Memphis. Relatives here are Mrs. R.R. Crawley, her sister-in-law, and nieces and nephews: Elvis Crawley, J.B. Killian, Mrs. Erma Lee Lowrie and Mrs. Jim Wood." (Information provided by Dodson Cemetery Association).
