Oklahoma City resident Effie L. "Lorene" Hogan McKinney, 90, passed away Thursday, Jan. 22, 2009 in Bethany, Okla. She was born Dec. 27, 1918 in Arpelar, Okla. to James Madison and Ora Lee Foster Hogan. Her family moved to the Macomb area when she was a child. She moved to Calif. with her two oldest sons to join her husband when he returned from Europe during World War II. She returned to Macomb in 1977. She then moved to Norman and had resided in Oklahoma City for the past 9 years. She attended school in Macomb. Effie married Vernon McGee. She later married Cleo McKinney. She had worked in Sales. While in Calif. she worked in school food services. Her family was very important to her. She enjoyed cooking for her family and friends. She also enjoyed crocheting, dancing and fishing. She was preceded in death by two husbands; her parents; three sisters, three brothers, and one step son. Survivors include four sons and three daughters in law, Vernon Eugene and Betty McGee of Edgewater, Co., Melvin Lewis and Jeri-Alynn McGee of Oklahoma City, Bobby Lee and Sandra McGee of Commerce City, Co., Billy Glen McGee of Las Vegas, Nevada; three step-children, Paul McKinney, Carl McKinney, Linda Welch; three sisters, Hester Garrison of Oakdale, Calif.; Thelma Hatala of Springfield, Ill., and Marian Coleman of Bethany; sister in law, Yvonne Hogan of Hutcheson, Kan.; thirteen grandchildren; twenty three great grandchildren; and one great great grandson; and a host of other relatives and friends. Service will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2009 at Cooper Funeral Chapel with the Rev. William H. Bentley officiating. Burial will be at Tecumseh Cemetery under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh. The Shawnee News-Star - January 26, 2009
