BURNS ARE FATAL TO FAIRHOPE MAN Joe Mangold, 67, Succumbs In Baldwin Hospital Fairhope--a 67 year old city employe, JOE MANGOLD, died at the Bay View Infirmary here Monday afternoon from burns suffered in an accident at a warehouse behind the city hall earlier in the day. A warehouse and clean-up man, Mangold was believed to have been building a fire in the warehouse using gasoline when his clothes caught on fire. Earl Howe, who arrived on the scene shortly after the accident, said he found Mangold leaning against a water tower with flames leaping eight feet over his head from the gasoline which had saturated his clothes. Howe, with the aid of others, put out the fire and sent Mangold to the hospital. Survivors include three sisters, Mrs. Joseph J. Cook, Mobile; Mrs. George Waganer, Fairhope, and Miss Katherine Hitchcock, New Orleans; a brother, George Hitchcock, Robertsdale, nieces, nephews and other relatives. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. at Roche Funeral Home. Interment will be in Magnolia Cemetery. Published November 1947, The Fairhope Courier, Fairhope, Alabama
