Buckner Died in Oneonta Sunday After an illness extending over a period of about two years William T. Buckner died at his home in Oneonta Sunday morning about 7:00 o'clock. Mr. Buckner was 59 years of age. He was born within a few miles of Oneonta and spent his entire life in this community. He was an active member of the Baptist church and for more than twenty years had served as a deacon. While he took an active part in business affairs his church always came first in his plans. Mr. Buckner was a successful business man. About thirty years ago he left the farm and came to Oneonta to operate a one-horse dray. In a short time he had accumulated enough means to enter the mercantile business. In this he was successful and acquired considerable farm and business property. When his health began to give way a few years ago he retired from the mercantile business and devoted his time to looking after his other interests. For a number of years Mr. Buckner was a director in the Blount County Bank. When it failed he helped to organize the Blount County State Bank and was one of its directors. He helped to organize and at the time of his death was a director in the Citizens Bank. Through all the failures and changes brought about by the depression the people never lost faith in Bill Buckner. Mr. Buckner leaves to mourn his death his beloved wife, one brother, O. F. Buckner, one sister, Miss Fannie Buckner, both of route 5, Oneonta, and a host of more distant relatives and friends. The funeral services were held at the Oneonta Baptist Church Monday afternoon and were conducted by Rev. R. A. Tuck, assisted by Rev. L.T. Fendley and rev. W. A. Murphree. Wade directing.
