Funeral Services for R.W. Buckner The funeral for Remus W. Buckner, who died on Wednesday afternoon of last week, as the result of a pistol shot wound received while in the discharge of his duty in raiding a still on Straight Mountain last week, were held at the Baptist Church in Oneonta last Thursday afternoon and were attended by the largest crowd that ever attended a funeral in Oneonta. The services were conducted by Rev. L.T. Fendley, assisted by Revs. P.J. Jordan, W.A. Murphree and T.B. Bealle, each of these men paid a very high tribute to the deceased officer. S.O. McPherson, Federal Prohibition Administrator made a few touching remarks in reference to the life and conduct of the deceased as an officer and as a man. The services at the cemetery were in charge of the Masonic order of which he was a devoted member. Mr. Buckner was about 56 years of age and was a member of the Baptist Church. He is survived by his widow, two step-sons, his mother, two brothers and one sister. Mr. Buckner was a good Christian man, a peacemaker and a valuable man to his community. He served his county for four years as Sheriff, and since 1920, has been in the of the service of the Federal Government as a prohibition agent. In both capacities he was regarded as a good officer and was held in high esteem. The remains were laid to rest in Oak Hill Cemetery. [The Southern Democrat, May 20, 1926]
