Rev. J.C. Buckner Passes Away Rev. J.C. Buckner who has been in ill health for some time died Monday night at his home on route 2, Oneonta. Bro. Buckner was 65 years of age and lived all of his life in the vicinity where he died. He lived a model life and had no enemies. He ha been a minister in the Baptist Church for about 35 years and while he was not what was considered one of the big preachers, he was a man of deep thought and one whose religion and sincerity was never doubted, and his labors resulted in great good to the church and cause of Christianity. The funeral services were held in the Baptist Church in Oneonta and sere conducted by Rev. L.T. Fendley and others. The services were held a little out of the ordinary in view of the fact the deceased had requested the reading of certain scripture and the rendering of certain music on the granfanola. The deceased is survived by his widow, one daughter, and four sons, Sheriff R.W. Buckner and W. T. Buckner of Oneonta and O.F and Walter Buckner. The remains were laid to rest in Old Liberty Cemetery east of Oneonta. [Robin Sterling's "People and Things from 'The Southern Democrat', 1915-1919", August 16, 1917]
